Arsenal 1 – 0 Ipswich
For any club’s supporters, the biggest question is always how far the team is from winning a trophy.
On Friday night, Arsenal fans received good news regarding the trophy race. Mikel Arteta’s team has moved up to second place in the Premier League standings. However, shortly after this positive update, the coach delivered some bad news. He revealed that an important player will be sidelined for a while.
Last night, Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 1-0 in the Premier League. The only goal of the match came in the 23rd minute from Kai Havertz. With this win, Arsenal now has 36 points from 18 matches. Liverpool, who sit at the top, have 42 points, with one less match played. Still, halfway through the season, Arsenal is becoming a key contender, which brings a sense of relief to the team.
After the match, Arteta reflected on the team’s performance, saying, “Considering the overall situation, especially how we’ve played with 10 men for most of the season and the injuries we’ve faced, we have to say our current position is quite good. But yes, it’s true that we haven’t reached where we want to be yet. We want to be in the number one spot.”
In the post-match press conference, Arteta also discussed Arsenal’s ongoing injury struggles. Unfortunately, Bukayo Saka has been ruled out for an extended period. The 23-year-old winger sustained a hamstring injury during the match against Crystal Palace on December 21 and was seen leaving the field with crutches.
Arteta mentioned that after undergoing surgery, Saka may take more than two months to recover. “He will have to go through a process. Unfortunately, he will be out for many weeks. Many weeks, I think more than two months. Though I don’t know exactly how long it will take.”
Saka has been a key player for Arsenal this season, contributing significantly to their attack. In all competitions, he has scored 9 goals and provided 13 assists in 24 matches.
Arsenal’s next match is on the first day of the new year against Brentford, followed by a match against Brighton on January 4.
