Leicester 0 – 2 Manchester City
After four games without a win, the four-time Premier League champions finally secured a victory. In a brilliant performance, Savinho celebrated his first Premier League goal, while also contributing to Erling Haaland’s goal, which ended his goal drought. Amid a disappointing run, Manchester City found some relief.
Pep Guardiola’s side won 2-0 in their Premier League match at Leicester City’s home ground on Sunday. After Savinho put City ahead, Haaland doubled the lead in the second half.
This victory marked only the second win for City in their last 10 league matches and just their second in the last 14 games across all competitions. With the win, City moved up two places in the league table, now sitting 5th with 31 points from 19 matches, including 9 wins and 4 draws.
After wasting a couple of good attacks, City found themselves in danger in the 10th minute. Leicester’s Jamie Vardy launched a counter-attack and raced forward, only for goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to bring him down. A penalty looked likely, but the linesman raised the offside flag.
City finally took the lead in the 21st minute after a close-range shot by Phil Foden was blocked by the goalkeeper. However, the loose ball fell into space, and Savinho made no mistake, firing a powerful shot to give City the lead.
The 20-year-old Brazilian forward, who joined City in July, scored his first Premier League goal.
Leicester started the second half with a promising attack, but Nathan Aké made a great sliding tackle to stop a chance from Facundo. City also created another opportunity soon after, but Bernardo Silva’s header was narrowly missed by Josko Gvardiol.
In the 74th minute, Haaland doubled the lead with a brilliant move. Kevin De Bruyne played a precise pass to Savinho, who crossed into the box for Haaland to score with a powerful header.
Haaland’s goal was his first in five league matches and his 14th goal of the season, two behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who leads the Premier League goal chart.
Despite some efforts from Leicester in the remaining time, they were unable to break their goal-scoring drought. After 11 defeats, Leicester remains 18th in the table with 14 points.
