Norwegian star striker Erling Haaland is overjoyed to have signed a long-term deal with the English club.
Haaland’s bond with Manchester City is growing stronger and more secure. The Norwegian striker has signed a new 10-year contract with the Premier League club, which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.
Previously, Haaland’s contract with City was set to expire in 2027. With this new agreement signed on Friday, the term has been extended by another seven years.
While Manchester City has not disclosed the financial details of the deal, ESPN reports it to be one of the most eye-catching contracts in football history.
Haaland joined Manchester City in 2022 from German club Borussia Dortmund. Although his initial contract included a buy-out clause, that has been removed in this latest agreement.
In the past, Haaland had drawn interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, fueling speculation that he might leave England for Spain. This new deal puts an end to such rumors.
Haaland expressed his immense joy in committing to City for the long term and reiterated his desire to contribute to the club’s success.
“I’m really happy to sign this new deal. I’m looking forward to spending more time at this amazing club. Manchester City is a special place – the people here are incredible, and the fans are amazing. The atmosphere here helps bring out the best in everyone.”
“I want to thank Pep (Guardiola), his coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club for their support over the past few years. They’ve made City such a special place, and now I feel like I’m truly a part of it. I want to keep improving, keep working hard, and help the team achieve even more success in the future.”
Since joining City, Haaland has become one of the club’s most vital players. Despite a slightly inconsistent season this time around, he has consistently delivered goals and shattered records in his first two campaigns.
So far, Haaland has scored 111 goals in 126 appearances for City across all competitions, with an additional 15 assists to his name. He has won a Champions League title, two Premier League trophies, and several other honors with the club.
This season, however, both Haaland and City have been struggling to find their usual rhythm. The team currently sits sixth in the league table with 35 points from 21 games, trailing leaders Liverpool by 12 points, making their title defense a tough challenge.
