It’s unclear when Cole Palmer will return to training with the team, according to Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca.
Chelsea’s attacking midfielder, who has been in excellent form, is now dealing with injury concerns ahead of their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. His availability for the game hangs in the balance.
Chelsea is set to face Wolves in a Premier League clash on Monday. On Friday, Stamford Bridge manager Maresca admitted uncertainty about the fitness of the 22-year-old Palmer.
Palmer picked up a knock during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday after a tough challenge from an opponent. Despite the injury, he managed to complete the match and even scored a goal.
On Friday, however, Palmer skipped training due to discomfort, and Maresca couldn’t confirm when the midfielder would be fit to return.
“They (the opposing players) hit Cole, so he couldn’t train today. We don’t know if he’ll be able to train tomorrow,” Maresca explained.
“We rely on Cole because he’s a top player. We want to play with him in the squad. But if he has an injury or any other issue, we’ll find a solution.”
Since joining Chelsea in 2023, Palmer has played in all 21 of the team’s league matches this season, contributing 14 goals and 6 assists.
Chelsea, however, seems to have lost its way in recent games. The club hasn’t won any of its last five Premier League matches and currently sits fifth in the table with 37 points from 21 games.
