Niko Kovač, the former Bayern Munich coach, has been appointed as the new head coach of Borussia Dortmund, replacing Nuri Şahin.
After a long break from coaching, Kovač is making his return to the profession. The German club confirmed his appointment on Thursday, naming the 53-year-old as their new manager.
Dortmund parted ways with Şahin on January 22 following a series of disappointing results. Now, Kovač steps in to take charge of the team.
The Croatian coach previously managed Bayern Munich for 19 months, from April 2018 to November 2019. His last coaching role was with Wolfsburg, which he left in March last year.
Looking to regain form, Dortmund has turned to Kovač to guide the team forward. In the Bundesliga, they currently sit 11th with seven wins from 19 matches. However, they recently secured a 3-1 victory over Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, earning a spot in the Champions League playoffs.
