Chelsea 0 – 3 Brighton
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was left deeply frustrated after his team’s poor performance against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
Despite having a stronger squad on paper, Chelsea suffered back-to-back defeats against Brighton. In their latest encounter, they were completely outclassed. Maresca admitted his disappointment after witnessing what he described as Chelsea’s worst performance since he took charge in June.
On Friday, Chelsea suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat at Brighton’s home ground. Missing key players Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guéhi, Chelsea struggled to create chances. They attempted eight shots but failed to hit the target even once. In contrast, Brighton registered 13 shots, five of which were on target, and three found the back of the net.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Maresca acknowledged that everything went wrong and highlighted areas that need improvement.
“I’m disappointed with everything. We’re sorry for the fans who came to watch. There are 14 (actually 13) games left, and we have to do better.”
“We’re in a situation where we’re conceding goals too easily and struggling to score. Before their first goal, Brighton didn’t create many chances. There are many things we need to improve.”
Chelsea had already lost 2-1 to Brighton in the FA Cup last week, and this defeat in the league only added to their frustration. Maresca admitted that this latest performance was particularly disappointing.
“This is the time to stay united. I always feel pressure, but this was our worst performance since I arrived. We’re still fourth and still in the race for European qualification.”
Despite the defeat, Chelsea remain in fourth place with 43 points from 25 matches. However, both Manchester City and Newcastle United have a chance to overtake them on Saturday.
