Bayern Munich 2 – 2 Borussia Dortmund
On a day when Bayer Leverkusen also stumbled, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich maintained their lead in the title race.
After a goalless first half, the game burst into life. Bayern Munich, trailing at one point, scored twice in just four minutes to raise hopes of a comeback win. But Borussia Dortmund responded again, securing a point in a dramatic draw.
The Bundesliga clash at the Allianz Arena ended 2-2 on Saturday. Despite dropping points at home, Bayern remain firmly on top of the league table.
The first-leg clash between these two sides earlier this season in January had also ended in a 1-1 draw.
Dortmund took the lead just three minutes into the second half. A well-placed cross found German forward Maximilian Beier, who headed it in from the left side of the six-yard box.
In the 54th minute, Bayern coach made a change, bringing on Raphaël Guerreiro for Kim Min-jae. It paid off quickly. Just 11 minutes after coming on, Guerreiro latched onto a Thomas Müller pass and fired home the equalizer.
Just four minutes later, Bayern took the lead. Josip’s pass found Serge Gnabry, who had come on only five minutes earlier. From inside the box, he struck with his right foot to put Bayern ahead.
But Dortmund, determined to bounce back from their 4-0 Champions League drubbing by Barcelona three days earlier, had the final say. In the 75th minute, Waldemar Anton scored from close range to ensure a share of the spoils.
Dortmund’s domestic struggles have continued throughout the season. After this draw, they sit in 8th place with 42 points from 29 matches.
Earlier in the day, Bayer Leverkusen were held to a goalless draw at home by Union Berlin. That result gave Bayern a chance to further strengthen their grip at the top. While they couldn’t take full advantage, they did maintain their lead and moved a step closer to the title.
With 69 points from 29 matches, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich sit atop the table. Defending champions Leverkusen are second with 63 points.
