Ali Arman was born in Dhaka on December 12, 1983, and built a solid playing career as a bowling all-rounder before moving into officiating. He batted right-handed, bowled right-arm off-break, and played for Barisal Division in 2007. Across 34 matches, he scored 1,269 runs at an average of 30.21, hitting one century with a top score of 109 not out alongside six fifties. Transitioning from the field to the middle, Arman established himself as a reliable match official. He stood in matches during the 2017–18 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. On the international stage, his officiating resume includes one One Day International in 2023 and eight Twenty20 Internationals between 2023 and 2024. During the 2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup, Arman drew attention when he tested positive for COVID-19 while serving as a reserve umpire, which led to his withdrawal from the list of match officials for the tournament.
