Mohammad Morshed Ali Khan Sumon was born in Faridpur on 14 May 1972. Before stepping into umpiring, he played international cricket for Bangladesh as a tall left-handed batter and left-arm medium bowler. He featured in three One Day Internationals during 1998, including a tri-nation tournament in India where he took one wicket for 31 runs from ten overs against the hosts. That same year, he earned a spot in the Bangladesh squad for the Commonwealth Games.
After his playing days, he transitioned to officiating as a professional umpire and joined the Bangladesh Cricket Board panel of first-class umpires. His international officiating career spans multiple formats and includes standing in two men's One Day Internationals between 14 May and 23 May 1998. He has also officiated in 25 men's Twenty20 Internationals from 2024 to 2025.
His international duties extend to the women's game as well. He officiated in two Women's One Day Internationals during 2023. Additionally, he stood in three Women's Twenty20 Internationals in 2024.
