Luis Díaz found the net on his debut in the German club’s jersey.
Harry Kane didn’t take long to open his scoring account for the season, and new signing Luis Díaz also struck in his very first match. With goals from both forwards, Bayern Munich lifted the German Super Cup.
At Stuttgart’s MHP Arena on Saturday night, Bayern claimed their second trophy of the year with a 2-1 win over the hosts.
It was a competitive game in terms of possession and attempts on goal. Stuttgart even had the edge in shots on target—five from 14 attempts compared to Bayern’s three from 17.
But once Kane put Bayern ahead in the 18th minute, the visitors remained in control. The English captain was quick to pounce inside the box when Stuttgart failed to clear their lines, calmly slotting the ball home.
This was Kane’s seventh goal in just five matches against Stuttgart—his joint-best tally against any team in a Bayern shirt, level with Augsburg.
In the 77th minute, Serge Gnabry set up Díaz, who flicked the ball into the net to double the lead. Having joined from Liverpool after a stellar season, the Colombian forward enjoyed a dream start at his new club.
German forward Jamie leveled one back for Stuttgart in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to derail Bayern’s victory.
Bayern’s captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who pulled off a string of outstanding saves, was named Player of the Match.
Next Friday, Bayern Munich will begin their Bundesliga title defense with a clash against RB Leipzig.
