At the start of the season, Manchester City’s striker has already scored 18 goals in just 11 matches.
Goal-scoring is nothing new for Erling Haaland—he’s set records before. But even by his own standards, the beginning of this season has been extraordinary. His performances on the pitch reflect the mindset he’s in. The Manchester City forward, in top form, says he has never felt this good in his life.
It was Haaland’s goal that secured Manchester City’s Premier League victory at Brentford on Sunday. With this, he has scored nine goals in seven league matches this season, more than anyone else.
Across all competitions for both club and country, his goal tally is eye-catching—18 goals in just 11 matches.
He has scored in nine consecutive matches, marking the longest streak of his career.
After the win at Brentford, Haaland credited his unstoppable form to both physical and mental preparation.
“I have never felt this good before,” he said.
“The main thing is preparation. Being ready for the match. Physical readiness is necessary, but mental preparation is just as important.”
Haaland began his English football journey by scoring goals almost effortlessly. In his first season at Manchester City, he set a scoring record, netting 36 Premier League goals.
The following season, he scored 27 goals, and last season his tally dropped to 22. Given this gradual decline, there were some doubts. But the start of this season has erased them all.
Haaland also revealed that becoming a father last year has made him more composed. Even off the pitch, he finds the drive to shine in football.
“Now with a child, I enjoy my time much more. Because off the pitch, I can be more detached than ever… I don’t think about football at all.”
“When you’re younger, football is always on your mind and many things crowd your head. But now, coming home, I feel much more relaxed. I have to give my son credit for that.”
