Spain’s top sports court has granted temporary registration to both players.
The uncertainty surrounding Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s participation for Barcelona in the second half of the season has been temporarily resolved. Spain’s top sports court has given them provisional registration while Barcelona’s case against La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is still under review.
The National Sports Council (CSD) announced on Wednesday that Olmo and Victor will be eligible to play until a final ruling is made on the case.
Barcelona signed the two players during the summer transfer window. Due to La Liga’s spending limits, the Catalan club was only able to register them for the first half of the 2024-25 season.
Last month, Barcelona’s request to register them for the rest of the season was rejected by two courts. La Liga authorities had stated that the club had failed to meet the necessary prerequisites for registration.
On Saturday, La Liga and the RFEF further rejected Barcelona’s appeal, explaining that although the club submitted the required documentation to raise its spending limit on Friday, it was too late for Olmo and Victor’s registration. They also cited a rule stating that players whose registration has been canceled cannot be registered again in the same season.
Barcelona then appealed this decision to the CSD.
Although Olmo and Victor are unavailable for Wednesday’s Spanish Super Cup semifinal against Athletic Bilbao, they will be eligible to play if Barcelona reaches the final.
