For Mohamed Salah, being at the top of the Premier League table this season feels a bit different compared to the 2018-19 campaign.
Liverpool is in fantastic form, producing one great performance after another, and now sits at the top of the points table. With their strong showing, they are well ahead of the competition in the race for the league title. However, Salah has experienced disappointment in similar situations before. Despite this, the Egyptian forward remains optimistic about reclaiming the title this time.
On Thursday, Liverpool strengthened their position at the top of the table with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City at Anfield. With 42 points from 17 matches, they are 7 points ahead of second-placed Chelsea, who have played one more game.
At this stage of the season, it’s only natural for Liverpool to dream of the title. But this isn’t the first time they’ve been in a strong position, only to fall short. The most notable instance was in the 2018-19 season when they were ahead by a significant margin for much of the campaign, only to be overtaken by Manchester City in the end.
In the following season, Liverpool secured the league title in dominant fashion, but in the 2020-21 season, they lost the title to City by just a point.
This time, however, Salah is confident about his team’s chances. He feels that this season feels different from the past.
“This season feels different. But the key thing is that we need to stay calm. In 2018-19, when we were ahead, we had some injury problems, and in the end, we couldn’t win the title. I hope we can continue playing like this without injury problems, keep moving forward, and win the title.”
“It’s very special. I hope we can win the Premier League with this club – it’s something I dream of.”
Liverpool’s next league match is on Sunday against West Ham United, followed by a home game against Manchester United on January 5.
