Hansi Flick is determined to keep fighting to close the gap with Real Madrid.
After dropping points in four consecutive La Liga matches, Barcelona is back to winning ways. Flick now aims to maintain that momentum by securing a victory against Alavés in the upcoming match, while also putting pressure on league leaders Real Madrid.
Barcelona will host Alavés on Sunday, with the match kicking off at 7 PM Bangladesh time. Their opponent sits just above the relegation zone, but Flick knows his team cannot afford any complacency.
Earlier in the season, Barcelona was at the top of the table after a series of strong performances, while Real Madrid had slipped to third. However, the scenario has now reversed. Reigning champions Real Madrid lead with 49 points from 21 games, while Barcelona, after recent setbacks, has fallen to third place, trailing their rivals by seven points.
Ahead of the Alavés match, Flick emphasized the importance of staying in the title race:
“We have dropped too many points. Hopefully, we can now win several matches in a row. To put pressure on Madrid, we need to maintain our winning streak. A seven-point gap is not easy to overcome, but we will keep fighting.”
Before Barcelona takes the field, Real Madrid will have the chance to extend their lead to 10 points, as they face Espanyol on Saturday night.
In their last match, Barcelona dominated Valencia with a resounding 7-1 victory. However, Flick expects a tougher challenge against Alavés, who are battling to avoid relegation. The German coach remains cautious about the threat they pose:
“Every match is different, but our goal is to win. We know we have to defend well, keep a clean sheet, create chances, and secure three points. Alavés has scored within the first 10 minutes in three of their last five matches, so we must stay alert.”
