Atlético Madrid 5-0 Getafe
Diego Simeone’s team stormed into the Copa del Rey semi-finals with a dominant victory over Getafe.
Atlético Madrid delivered a commanding performance just days before their crucial La Liga clash against league leaders Real Madrid. Simeone’s men crushed Getafe 5-0 at home on Tuesday night to book their place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
Julián Simeone led the charge with a brace, while Ángel Correa, Samu Lino, and Alexander Sørloth each found the net.
The Argentine forward put Atlético in control early, scoring twice within the first 17 minutes. From there, there was no looking back for the home side.
Julián thought he had completed his hat-trick in the 49th minute, only for his goal to be ruled offside. He left the pitch to a standing ovation in the 61st minute.
After the match, he shared his thoughts with Teleporte:
“Today, I’m extremely happy—it was crazy! I want to thank my teammates because this was a fantastic team effort. I’m happy with the goals, but I always focus on improving. I still have a lot to work on to keep growing.”
“This was a tough game, and now we need to rest. Then, we’ll prepare well and give everything on Saturday.”
Atlético will now shift their focus to a high-stakes La Liga showdown against defending champions Real Madrid. With 48 points from 22 matches, Atlético sits second in the league, just one point behind their city rivals at the top.
