Barcelona’s young defender, Pau Cubarsí, believes that a Champions League final between Barcelona and Real Madrid would be an incredible spectacle for fans.

El Clásico is one of the biggest rivalries in club football, but surprisingly, the two Spanish giants have never faced each other in a Champions League final. This season, however, the possibility is stronger than ever. If it happens, Cubarsí is confident it will be a thrilling showdown.

In the newly formatted Champions League, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have already secured their spots in the quarter-finals. Barcelona will face Borussia Dortmund in their bid to reach the semi-finals, while Real Madrid, who advanced past Atlético Madrid via a dramatic penalty shootout, will take on Arsenal.

With both teams placed on opposite sides of the draw, a potential Clásico final remains the only stage where they could meet.

Real Madrid, the reigning and record-holding 15-time Champions League winners, have consistently dominated European football. Barcelona, meanwhile, last lifted the trophy in 2015 and haven’t reached the final since. Under Hansi Flick, however, the Catalan side has found strong form this season.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old Cubarsí expressed his hope for a dream final in May.

“(In the Champions League) yes, Madrid always performs well. We’re also doing well, and I believe we could meet in the final. They are an incredible team, and so are we. It would be a fantastic final to watch.”

Barcelona has already crushed Real Madrid twice this season. They won 4-0 in a La Liga match last October and secured a dominant 5-2 victory in the Spanish Super Cup final in January.

There could be up to three more Clásico clashes before the season ends. Apart from the upcoming La Liga return fixture, a potential Champions League final and a Copa del Rey final could also set the stage for further encounters between the two Spanish powerhouses.
