To prepare himself for the challenges ahead, Neymar sees Santos as the perfect place for now.
A youthful face, eyes filled with dreams and excitement, and the number 18 jersey on his back—stepping onto the field as a substitute, a young footballer ready to chase his dreams. That’s how the video begins. Neymar shared this emotional clip on Instagram, capturing his journey from his Santos debut to Barcelona, PSG, Saudi Arabia, and now, his return to his roots.
Once his contract with Al Hilal was mutually terminated, it was clear—Neymar was heading back to Santos. The Brazilian star made it official with this nostalgic video on social media.
Neymar first stepped into Santos at just 11 years old and made his professional debut at 17. It was here that he dazzled the world with his talent, earning a place in the Brazilian national team. In 2013, he left his beloved club to chase even bigger dreams, joining Barcelona. Now, nearly a decade later, he is back, completing a full circle in his career.
In the heartfelt video, narrated in his own voice, Neymar expressed just how much Santos has always meant to him:
“It feels like I’m stepping back in time. I’m here with my family and friends, and they have helped me embark on this new chapter. I can’t wait until tomorrow. They already know my decision—I have signed with Santos Football Club. I’m grateful to my fans all over the world.”
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for years. It’s been 12 intense years since I left the most famous Vila in the world. But it feels like just yesterday. My feelings for this club and its fans have never changed.”
After leaving Barcelona, Neymar went on to PSG and later made headlines with his move to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia in 2023. But an unfortunate injury sidelined him for over a year. In his one-and-a-half seasons with Al Hilal, he managed to play only seven matches and score just once.
Despite the setbacks, the 32-year-old has nothing but gratitude for his time in Saudi Arabia.
“I had an incredible time in Saudi Arabia. The warmth with which they welcomed me and my family was unbelievable. I was truly happy there, and I will cherish those memories forever.”
“However, my injury was serious, and it didn’t allow me to move forward as I had hoped. I wish Saudi Arabia success in hosting the 2034 World Cup—they deserve it, and I will be there to support them.”
Although he enjoyed his Saudi experience, Neymar believes that returning to Santos is the best move for his career and for rediscovering his form.
“But now, I just want to play again. The love I need to face the challenges ahead can only come from a club like Santos. No matter which team you support, you know exactly what I mean. I hope you’ll stand by me in this next chapter of my life. Thank you all for your support, especially during my toughest moments—there were plenty of them.”
“Football is what I love most in life. It’s what brings me the greatest joy.”
