Shreyas Iyer has been fined 12 lakh rupees after Punjab Kings’ tenth match of the season.
The Punjab Kings captain was penalized for maintaining a slow over rate in their IPL game against Chennai Super Kings. According to the IPL Code of Conduct (Section 2.22), a first-time offense in this regard carries a fine of ₹12 lakh.
Punjab clinched a thrilling 4-wicket win in Chennai on Wednesday, chasing down Chennai’s 190-run target with two balls to spare. Iyer played a match-winning knock, scoring 72 runs off a mix of 4 sixes and 5 fours, earning him the Player of the Match award.
But alongside the joy of leading his team to victory, the Indian batter now has to deal with the pain of a fine. Since it was his first offense this season, the penalty remains limited to a fine without any further sanctions. However, repeated offenses in upcoming matches could lead to harsher consequences.
With this win, Punjab now stands second on the points table with 13 points.
Iyer joins a growing list of players penalized for slow over rates this season, including Mumbai’s Hardik Pandya, RCB’s Rajat Patidar, Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson, Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel, Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill, and Lucknow Super Giants’ Rishabh Pant.
