According to a report by Times of India, India may host the remaining IPL matches in August instead of traveling to Bangladesh for their scheduled tour.
After the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL), uncertainty has now crept into India’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Along with this, the Asia Cup this year could also be canceled, as reported by Times of India.
The ongoing conflict between neighboring countries India and Pakistan is having a significant impact on cricket. The IPL and PSL have already been suspended. The PSL matches have been moved to the UAE, and the IPL has been postponed by a week.
Given the current situation, Times of India reports that India will not be touring Bangladesh in August or hosting the Asia Cup in September. According to reliable sources, the BCCI may choose to hold the remaining IPL matches during this period, should it be necessary, by canceling other international fixtures.
India is scheduled to visit England in the first week of June for a five-match Test series. However, the IPL should conclude before the England tour begins. Yet, due to the escalating border tensions, nothing is certain at this point.
Instead of the Bangladesh tour and Asia Cup in August-September, the BCCI is considering hosting the remaining IPL matches during that time. The Times of India also noted that even if the IPL finishes before August, the BCCI is not interested in playing the Bangladesh tour or the Asia Cup.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to comment on the situation. Sources from the board indicate that an informal meeting of the directors will take place on Saturday to discuss the recent developments.
Last month, the BCB announced the full schedule for India’s Bangladesh tour in August. The Indian team was set to arrive in Dhaka on August 13 for a three-match ODI and three-match T20 series.
No preparation matches were included in the schedule. The first ODI was to be played on August 17 at Mirpur, followed by the second on August 20 at the same venue. Afterward, both teams were set to travel to Chattogram.
The final ODI was scheduled for August 23 at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium. The first T20 match was set for August 26 in Chattogram, with the remaining two matches on August 29 and 31 in Mirpur.
