Harry Kane, the English striker for Bayern Munich, has finally tasted his first-ever team title in professional football.
Before even stepping onto the pitch for their next match, Bayern Munich’s wait was over. Bayer Leverkusen dropped points against Freiburg, allowing the record Bundesliga champions to reclaim the league crown with two matches to spare. For Kane, it was a long-awaited moment — the first team trophy of his professional career.
Leverkusen, last season’s champions, were held to a 2–2 draw away at Freiburg on Sunday. After going two goals down, the visitors struck back with goals in the 82nd and 93rd minutes.
With 68 points from 32 games, Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen sit second in the table. Bayern now lead with 76 points from the same number of matches, making it mathematically impossible to be caught — just two rounds remain.
Bayern could’ve sealed the title a match earlier, but a dramatic stoppage-time goal in a 3–3 draw with RB Leipzig delayed their celebrations.
The Bavarian giants have now extended their record of most Bundesliga titles to 34. No other club in Germany has more than nine.
Leverkusen had broken Bayern’s 11-year title streak last season, becoming the first team in Bundesliga history to win the title while remaining unbeaten. But just a year later, Bayern have regained their crown.
Under new head coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern returned to the top in his debut season in charge. However, their Champions League campaign ended in the quarter-finals, after back-to-back defeats to Inter Milan.
For Harry Kane — England’s captain and all-time leading scorer, as well as Tottenham Hotspur’s record goal-getter — this is a long-awaited milestone.
Despite an illustrious career full of personal accolades, Kane had never lifted a team trophy. He lost two European Championship finals with England, and three finals with Tottenham. In the 2016–17 season, Spurs finished second in the Premier League.
Last season, Kane made the switch from Spurs to Bayern and continued to score regularly — but Bayern endured their first trophyless campaign in over a decade, extending Kane’s drought.
Now, that wait is finally over.
Kane scored 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga games last season. So far this season, he has 24 goals in 29 matches — once again proving his value as one of the world’s elite forwards.
